Quantize clips

Quantize MIDI notes

Quantize onto the swung grid

Good to know

  • Starts only. Lengths stay as they are. Where a moved start runs into the next clip or note, the earlier one is shortened to end there.
  • It follows the groove. Each track uses its own groove when it has one, otherwise the project groove. The stored position stays straight, so it keeps following when you change the groove later.
  • Always 1/16, whatever grid the zoom level shows.
  • A flam stays a flam. When two selected clips are nearest the same line, the closer one lands on it and the other keeps its distance.
  • To quantize while you play, set Record Quantize: Record MIDI. To snap the slices inside a loop, use Quantize in the Warp section: Time Stretching.
  • Nothing is deleted from clips. A shortened linked copy becomes a clip of its own, so the other copies keep their length.
  • Notes on the same pitch may not overlap. If shortening would leave a note under 1/64, or two notes land on the same start, one of them is removed. Notes on different pitches may overlap.
  • Notes change every linked copy, because they belong to the clip’s body.
  • In Focus Mode with nothing marked, ⌘U does nothing. Leave Focus Mode to quantize the clip itself.
  • Quantize Selection is in the Command Palette’s Clips group. ⌘Z undoes it as one step, and a controller button can run it.
