Play the slices

Open an audio clip with ⌥↓ and press the letter keys: each one plays a slice between transient markers, to its end. The key map and the playback rules are on Slices.

Step from slice to slice

Press ⌘→ / ⌘← to step to the next or previous slice. Past the last slice, ⌘→ moves into the neighboring clip.

Set the clip’s gain

Drag the gain slider in the focus bar. The value shows in dB beside it, and the waveform grows or shrinks with it.

Cut the clip at a slice

Right-click below the clip’s header strip where the cut should go. In Focus Mode this slices the clip at the pointer and never deletes it.

Edit the waveform in the Sample Editor

Click Open Sample Editor in the focus bar, or press ⌥X. Transient detection and marker editing live there.

Good to know

  • An audio clip opens in a shallow band, about 40% of the viewport, with its slice markers.
  • Each slice starts at a transient marker. Where the markers come from and how to move them: Slices.
  • The gain slider runs from −24 dB to +12 dB. It sets the same clip gain as the number keys on the timeline: Clip Gain.
  • The Sample Editor also opens from a click on the inspector’s waveform preview.
  • To cut the clip into one clip per slice, use Split Clips at Transients (⇧⌘E) on the main timeline: Slices.
