Save a version

Press ⇧⌘S. Gridshift saves the complete project state and bounces an audio preview of it; a progress sheet shows the bounce, and the new version appears at the top of Versions in the Inspector’s Project tab.

Preview a version

Press ⌘2 for the Project tab. Click the play button on a version to hear its bounce without loading it; click it again to stop.

Load a version

Click a version’s name in the Project tab. If there are unsaved changes, Gridshift asks you to save them first. The line under the project title then ends in the version’s number, such as v3.

Rename a version

Right-click a version and choose Rename…, type the name and press Return.

Good to know

  • ⌘S saves, ⇧⌘S saves a version. Only a version adds an entry to the history.
  • A version is the full project state: tracks, clips, effects, automation and all settings.
  • The preview is an AAC bounce, so you can compare versions by ear without loading them. Playback and version previews never sound together; starting one stops the other.
  • Loading a version keeps the history. You never lose access to the other versions.
  • Versions live inside the .gsp project bundle. They travel with the project, including through iCloud to the iPhone.
  • New versions are named v1, v2 and so on, and show their date and time. A checkmark marks the version you loaded.
  • Once you change anything after loading, the line under the project title says edited instead of the version number.
  • The right-click menu has Load Version, Rename… and Play Preview. A version whose bounce failed has no play button.
  • The Projects window plays and lists versions without opening the project.
  • Command Palette → Load Version, Rename Version and Play Version Preview do the same from the keyboard. Until a version exists they say No Versions Saved.
