Choose a mode

See what is bypassed

Look at the track’s Plugin Strip while monitoring is on. A plugin taken out has an orange bypass button.

Play live with Recording & Playing

Set the mode to Recording & Playing and select the instrument track you play. Select another instrument track, and its plugins go orange instead.

Good to know

  • Plugins that look ahead report a latency, such as limiters and linear-phase EQs. Plugin delay compensation (PDC) holds the rest of the mix back to line up with them, which keeps playback in time but puts the same delay between your key press and the sound.
  • While monitoring is active on a track, its latency plugins are bypassed and the track skips its compensation delay. Its MIDI clips are scheduled earlier by the delay the rest of the mix still carries, so they stay in time with it.
  • Notes you record while monitoring land where you heard them.
  • During a take, monitoring holds. Selecting another track waits until the take ends, so your latency does not change mid-performance. Changing the mode itself applies at once.
  • Recording audio input onto an empty sample track does not use Zero-Latency Monitoring.
  • The bypass covers every plugin with a latency above 0 on the track’s whole signal path: Track Inserts → Parent Group Inserts → Master Bus Inserts.
  • When monitoring ends, the bypass button returns to normal and the plugin is back in the chain.
  • Plugins you bypassed yourself stay as they are.
  • Select a Return, and every plugin comes back in, so you hear its effect through the full chain, while monitoring stays on the track you were playing.
  • The same picker is in Settings → Audio, under Latency. The checkmark moves to the mode you picked.
