Commit after each pass
Play the kick on one pass and press ⇧C. Play the hats on the next pass and press ⇧C again. The second commit goes into the same clip, so it holds both layers.
Record the loop instead
Press Caps Lock to turn on record mode, then Space. Each pass adds a layer to the clip, and ⌘Z takes back the last layer only. See Record MIDI.
Good to know
- Capture treats a pass as a take. Earlier passes count as rehearsals of the same bars, so the whole last pass wins, not each pitch.
- Passes where you played nothing do not count. You can leave the transport running and commit a few passes later.
- Pressing
⇧C halfway through a pass keeps that half pass.
