# What AI Assistants Can't Do

> Claude or ChatGPT does not answer, or refuses a step. It needs Gridshift running, a desktop chat, and your yes for anything risky; some changes cannot be undone.

## Start Gridshift and ask again

If every reply says **Gridshift is not running**, start Gridshift and ask again. The chat does not need a restart.

## Use the desktop app, in the right chat

Claude works in Claude for Mac. ChatGPT reaches Gridshift only in a **Codex** chat in the ChatGPT app for Mac. Regular ChatGPT chats, and both services on the web, cannot reach Gridshift. Setup: [Connect an Assistant](/assistants/install.md).

## Answer Gridshift's question yourself

Before anything that loses unsaved work, deletes for good or costs storage, Gridshift asks you, in the chat or in an alert. The assistant cannot answer for you, and no answer in time counts as no.

## Good to know

* **It works on the open project.** Other projects are reachable only for their collections, versions and comments.
* **It does not listen.** It measures loudness, peaks, bands and width by rendering the loop; how it sounds is your call.
* **Library, preset, plugin-library and project-browser changes cannot be undone with `⌘Z`**, nor can saves and exports, as in the app. Project edits can, one step per call.
* **It cannot delete the open project.**
* **The Claude extension keeps the tools of the version it installed** until you click **Update** in Gridshift's banner and start a new chat.
