# Plugin Won't Load

> A plugin is missing from the lists or shows a warning card. Scan for new plugins in Settings ▸ Plugins, then Retry the card or install the plugin.

## Scan for the plugin

After installing a plugin, press `⌘,`, choose **Plugins** and click **Scan for New**. If it still does not appear, click **Rescan All**, which checks every installed Audio Unit again. See [Plugin Categories](/sounds/plugin-categories.md).

## Retry a plugin that failed to start

A card with a warning sign failed to load. Click **Retry**, or run **Retry Instrument Load** from the Command Palette for the selected track's instrument. **Change…** picks another plugin; **Remove** clears the slot.

## Install a plugin a project uses

A card reading **Plugin not installed** names a plugin this Mac does not have. Install it and reopen the project, or right-click and choose **Remove Slot**.

## Good to know

* **Gridshift loads Audio Units only.** A plugin that ships only as VST or CLAP for other hosts does not appear.
* **A missing plugin's slot is kept when you save**, so the project plays again on a Mac that has it.
