# Gaps After Stretching

> A stretched or pitched sample has holes or sounds choppy. Punchy leaves gaps by design; switch the Warp Character to Smooth to fill them.

## Switch the Character to Smooth

Select the clip, open the **Character** menu at the top of the Inspector's **Warp** section and pick **Smooth**. Each slice is stretched to fill its span, and the waveform runs on without gaps.

## Keep Punchy and shorten the stretch

For drums, keep **Punchy** and bring the **Target BPM** or **Pitch** closer to the original. The further you slow down or pitch up, the larger each gap.

## Good to know

* **Punchy plays each slice untouched.** Where a slice runs short, the rest is silent. That keeps transients intact, and the gaps are the trade.
* **Pitching up under Punchy makes gaps audible**: at `+12` semitones a slice covers half its span.
* **Smooth renders in the background.** Right after a change, the clip plays with Punchy's gaps until the Smooth version is ready.
* **Gaps under Smooth are a bug.** Report it with `Help → Send Feedback…`.
