# Default Project

> A saved template of tracks, effects, routing and settings that every new project starts from. Set up a project and run Save as Default Project.

## Save your setup as the default

<video src="/videos/default-project-save.mp4" poster="/videos/default-project-save.jpg" aria-label="Save as Default Project from the command palette, then Command N opens a new project with the same tracks" title="Save as Default Project from the command palette, then Command N opens a new project with the same tracks" muted loop playsInline preload="none" />

Set up the tracks, effects, routing and tempo you want. Press `⌘K` and run **Save as Default Project**. Every new project (`⌘N`) now starts from it.

## Reset to factory

Press `⌘K`, run **Reset Default Project** and confirm. New projects start from Gridshift's built-in empty project again.

## Good to know

* **The template keeps the whole setup.** All tracks and their settings, effect chains and plugin states, routing and group structure, and the key and scale shown at the time.
* **Audio samples are embedded into the template.**
* **The name is reset.** A project made from the template starts as "Untitled Project".
* **The cover is never inherited.** Each new project gets its own generated cover ([Projects](/projects/projects.md)).
