# Comments

> Notes and to-dos on a project, kept in the Inspector's Project tab and on your iPhone, where a comment can point at a moment in a version. Press ⌥C to add one.

## Add a comment

Press `⌥C`, type the comment and press `Return`. The Inspector switches to the Project tab, where it appears at the bottom of **Comments**. Or press `⌘2` and type into **Add comment…** at the end of the list.

## Tick a comment off

Click the checkbox in front of it. The comment is struck through, and the count in the section header, such as `2/5`, goes up.

## Edit, reorder or delete a comment

Click a comment's text to edit it; `Return` keeps the change, `Escape` drops it. Drag a comment to move it. Click the `×` at its end, or right-click → **Delete**, to delete it.

## Read comments left on the iPhone

Comments written in the [iPhone app](/sync/iphone-player.md) while listening appear in the same list, each with a time chip: the time, the bar and beat, and the version it was heard in. Play that version under **Versions** and go to the spot.

## Good to know

* **Comments are not undo steps.** `⌘Z` never takes one back, so deleting one from the Command Palette asks first.
* **A comment is a change to the project.** It marks the project unsaved and is saved with it.
* **A comment without a time is a note on the whole project.** Either kind can be ticked off or deleted on the Mac or the phone.
* **The [Projects](/projects/projects.md) window shows every project's comments** in its inspector, where you can add, tick and delete them without opening the project.

> **Details**
>
> * Blank text is ignored: `Return` on an empty field adds nothing.
> * Command Palette → **Tick Comment Done**, **Edit Comment** (type the new wording, then pick the comment), **Move Comment** (type its new place, `1` is the top, then pick it) and **Delete Comment** work on the open project. Until there is a comment they say **No Comments**.
> * A deleted comment is gone from the project, on this Mac and on the iPhone.
> * Edits made on the phone are merged per comment, the newest change winning, and sent back, so both devices end up with the same list in the same order.
> * Comments sync with the project when **Sync projects** is on ([iCloud](/sync/icloud.md)).
