# Parallel Mix

> Run any effect in parallel, on one frequency band, or on mid or side only. Click Mix on the effect's card and set Apply to, Input, Dry and Wet.

## Blend in the dry signal

<video src="/videos/plugin-strip-mix.mp4" poster="/videos/plugin-strip-mix.jpg" aria-label="In the Mix popover, Dry is raised next to the compressor, and the Mix button turns orange" title="In the Mix popover, Dry is raised next to the compressor, and the Mix button turns orange" muted loop playsInline preload="none" />

Click **Mix** on the card's right edge in the [Plugin Strip](/sounds/plugin-strip.md). Raise **Dry** next to a heavy compressor for parallel compression.

## Process one band or mid/side only

In the Mix popover, pick **Low**, **Mid** or **High** in **Apply to**, and type a crossover in the field under it. Pick **Side (stereo)** to widen only the sides with a chorus or reverb.

## Make a reverb or delay throw

Automate **Input** on a reverb or delay card and pull it down after the word you want thrown. The tail rings out instead of being cut off.

## Move an effect to a Return

<video src="/videos/plugin-strip-return.mp4" poster="/videos/plugin-strip-return.jpg" aria-label="With the drum loop's reverb card selected, Move Effect to Return Track in the command palette takes it off the track and puts it on a new Return above the Master" title="With the drum loop's reverb card selected, Move Effect to Return Track in the command palette takes it off the track and puts it on a new Return above the Master" muted loop playsInline preload="none" />

Select the card and run Command Palette → **Move Effect to Return Track**, or right-click it. Turn up the new [send](/mix/sends-and-returns.md) to hear it.

## Good to know

* **Everything outside Apply to passes untouched** and stays in time, so a plugin that does nothing sounds exactly like the original.
* **Input never changes the dry signal.** That is why it makes a clean throw.
* **With a band, Mid or Side, Dry is that part only.**
* **The Mix button turns orange when anything differs from the default**, and the card names the part, for example *Low \< 180 Hz*. **Reset** puts everything back.
* **Moving an effect to a Return sets Apply to back to All**, because a Return is fully wet. One `⌘Z` undoes the move.

> **What do the Mix settings do?**
>
> | Setting | What it does |
> | - | - |
> | **Apply to** | **All** (default), **Low**, **Mid**, **High** (crossovers 180 Hz and 2.5 kHz by default), **Mid (mono)**, **Side (stereo)** |
> | **Input** | Signal into the plugin, from silent up to +12 dB |
> | **Dry** | The unprocessed signal, **−∞ dB** (default) |
> | **Wet** | The processed signal, **0 dB** (default) |

> **Can several plugins share one band?**
>
> * Set each plugin to that band. For EQ, compression, delay and reverb it sounds the same as one shared band.
> * A saturator's added harmonics stay in the signal and are not split again.

**Next:** [Sends and Returns](/mix/sends-and-returns.md) to feed one reverb from several tracks.
