# Bounce and Export

> Renders the project to an audio file in WAV, AIFF, AAC, FLAC or MP3, selected clips to a new track, or a whole track to audio in place. Press ⇧⌘B to export, ⌘B to bounce a selection, ⌥F to flatten a track.

## Export the project

Press `⇧⌘B` (**Export Audio…**). In **Bounce to Disk**, pick the format, sample rate and bit depth, then click **Export…** and choose where the file goes.

## Bounce selected clips

<video src="/videos/bounce-selection.mp4" poster="/videos/bounce-selection.jpg" aria-label="Two Tops 1 clips selected, Command B renders them to a new audio track right below" title="Two Tops 1 clips selected, Command B renders them to a new audio track right below" muted loop playsInline preload="none" />

Select the clips and press `⌘B`. They are rendered with their track effects onto a new sample track directly below.

## Flatten a track

Select one sample or instrument track and press `⌥F` (**Flatten Track**). The track is replaced by its rendered audio, while its fader, sends and ducking stay live.

## Good to know

* **A selection bounce runs through each clip's full effect chain.** Use it to commit effects to audio, make processed stems, or cut CPU load by replacing live effects with rendered audio.
* **Flatten prints what comes before the mixer**: the instrument, MIDI effects, insert effects with their automation, and the groove. Volume, pan, the clipper, sends and ducking are rebuilt live on the new track, so it sounds the same and stays mixable.
* **Export renders the whole project**, from the start to the end of the last clip.
* **Integer bit depths clip above 0 dBFS.** Choose 32-bit float, or switch on **Normalize** to scale the render so its loudest peak sits just under 0 dBFS. The dialog says which applies to the format you picked.
* **A monitor profile never reaches a bounce.** The correction plugin on the listen bus is not rendered; see [Monitor Profiles](/mix/monitor-profiles.md).

> **Details**
>
> * The bounced track joins the source's group and is placed after the last source track.
> * A selection bounce keeps reverb and delay tails: the render runs on past the last clip by the effects' reported tail time, at least 3 seconds when any effect or instrument is present and at most 10 seconds per effect.
> * Flatten rebuilds the clips at their grooved start positions, each running to the next clip's start so effect tails ringing into gaps are kept. Muted clips are not rendered but ride along unchanged.
> * Flatten re-points what listened to the track: sends keep their automation, duckings it triggers keep firing from the rebuilt clip starts, and plugin sidechains on other tracks follow it. A MIDI sidechain loses its notes; Gridshift asks first when flattening would change something that listens to the track's notes.
> * Flatten is one undo step. It needs a single sample or instrument track with at least one unmuted clip.
> * **Save Version** (`⇧⌘S`) bounces its own AAC preview; see [Versions](/projects/versions.md).
