# The iPhone App

> What the iPhone and iPad app is for: hearing your versions away from the studio, and sorting your library in time you would not make music anyway.

The iPhone app is not a DAW on the phone. It does two jobs that work better away from the desk, so the time at the desk goes to making music.

## Hear the track somewhere else

A mix you have heard a hundred times on your monitors stops telling you anything. On the train, in the car or on a phone speaker you hear it fresh. The app plays every saved [version](/projects/versions.md) of every project, so you can compare where the track stands and leave a [comment](/projects/comments.md) on what works and what does not. The comments are waiting on the Mac.

## Sort the library in dead time

Auditioning and filing samples is necessary, and it is the classic way to avoid finishing a track. The app moves it to the moments you could not make music anyway: swipe through unsorted samples, hear each one, file it into a collection or let it go. The Mac finds the library sorted.

## What it does not do

It does not edit projects, record or mix. Everything it shows comes from iCloud, so the Mac has to sync first.

**Next:** [iPhone: Projects](/sync/iphone-player.md) to install it and listen, or [iPhone: Samples](/sync/iphone-library.md) to sort.
