# 4. Mix and Export

> Part 4 of four: balance each track's fader and pan, mix the drum group, insert an effect, share a reverb on a return track, and export a WAV with ⇧⌘B.

Part 4 of four. Open the song from [3. Arrange](/get-started/first-track-arrange.md).

## 1. Balance a track's fader and pan

Select the bass track, press `⌘1` for the Inspector and drag the fader in the **Mix** section; it snaps at 0 dB. Drag the panner of the hat track a little off center.

You hear the bass sit under the drums and the hat move to one side. More: [Track Mix](/mix/track-mix.md).

## 2. Mix the drums on their group

Click the drum group in the track list and press `⌘1`. Its **Group Mix** section has a fader for each drum track: drag them until kick, snare and hats balance.

You hear the drums as one balanced kit. More: [Group Mix and Master Mix](/mix/group-and-master-mix.md).

## 3. Insert an effect on a track

Select the snare track and press `⌥E` (**Add Effect…**), type a few letters of a plugin's name and press `Return`. Hold `⌘` and drag a control on its card in the Plugin Strip, or click the card to open the full window; no plugins: [Free Sounds and Plugins](/get-started/free-sounds-and-plugins.md).

You hear the effect on the snare only. More: [Load Instruments and Effects](/sounds/load-instruments-and-effects.md), [Plugin Strip](/sounds/plugin-strip.md).

## 4. Share a reverb on a return track

Press `⌥⇧⌘T` (**Add Return Track**), or right-click the Sidebar's empty area, then press `⌥E` on the new return and add a reverb. Select the snare, open **Sends** in the Inspector and drag the return's slider above 0; right-click the row for **Send Pre-Mix** if the reverb should stay when the snare's fader goes down.

You hear the snare in a room, with the dry snare untouched. More: [Sends and Returns](/mix/sends-and-returns.md).

## 5. Export a WAV

Press `⇧⌘B` (**Export Audio…**). Leave **Format** on WAV and **Bit Depth** on 32-bit float, which cannot clip, click **Export…** and choose where to save.

You have your finished song as a WAV. More: [Bounce and Export](/mix/bounce-and-export.md).

**Next:** [The Idea](/get-started/the-idea.md) explains why Gridshift works this way.
