# MIDI Capture

> Retroactively recall MIDI notes you played but forgot to record. Gridshift continuously buffers incoming MIDI.

Gridshift continuously records incoming MIDI events into a circular buffer — even when you're not in record mode. If you play something great and forgot to hit record, you can recall it after the fact.

The buffer holds up to **16,384 events** per track. When full, the oldest events are silently overwritten.

## Committing a Capture

<Steps>
  <Step title="Play your MIDI controller or Musical Typing along with the project" />

  <Step title="When you want to keep what you played, press ⇧C (Commit MIDI Capture)" />

  <Step title="Gridshift creates a clip from the buffered notes on the selected track" />
</Steps>

The notes are placed at their correct timeline positions based on when they were played relative to the transport.

## Clearing the Buffer

Open the Command Palette (`⌘K`) and search for **"Clear MIDI Capture Buffer"** to discard all buffered events and start fresh.
